One of the best birthday parties are those that are planned ahead - and planned for the worst! If you are planning a happy and exciting outdoor birthday party in the backyard, local park, by the water or other location outside, be sure to have a back-up plan by planning some indoor birthday games.

What if you wake up on the day of the big birthday party festivities and there are dark, threatening clouds on the horizon? If you have been planning a sunny day in the park with your child’s best friends, rain is suddenly your worst enemy. It pays to plan ahead!

If it rains, you will need a big, open area to play games with your kid and his or her friends. If you have a garage, you can back the car out and put down old towels, followed by blankets and pillows in an effort to give the children a safer, open place to play. From there, you can plot a few hours of activities and indoor games for rainy days that will make your birthday party one of the best. Try some of these indoor birthday games:

- Balloon Stomp - Blow up a number of balloons and tie a rubber hand on the end of each one. From there, tie the rubber bands to the ankles of the kids and play music. Have the kids try to step on each other’s balloons while protecting their own. The child with the last balloon on their ankle wins!

- Sock Grab - have two children compete against each other at a time. Have a large bucket of socks in between them. Have both children sit on the floor near the bucket and blindfold them. On your count, give them a minute to put on as many socks on their feet as they can. The child with the most socks wins!

- Wrapping Toilet Paper - This classic indoor birthday party pairs two children together. One is the statue while the other kid wraps the ’statue’ with toilet paper. The first child to wrap their partner completely with no body parts showing wins!

Knowing some indoor birthday games ahead of time will help you plan an exciting and thrilling birthday party for kids. The best party you can have is one filled with a lot of imagination.
