First Birthday Theme Ideas and Activities
Celebrate your child’s 1st birthday with family and friends with an exciting first birthday theme and activities. Your child’s 1st birthday is one of the most special birthdays you will experience as a family. It’s such a year of ‘firsts!’
There are a number of first birthday themes that you can choose to make this day a success. Some popular 1st birthday theme ideas include:
- Baby Einstein
- Cars and Trucks
- Farm Animals
- Baby Muppets
- Noah’s Ark
- Princess
- Sports Champ
- Firefighters
- Sesame Street
- Winnie the Pooh
After you have chosen the first birthday theme it’s a good idea to have some activities planned for the adults involved to keep everyone laughing and have the occasion momentous. Keep in mind that the best thing about the 1st birthday is a chance for parents and family members to get together and spend quality time with the new baby.
Play the game ‘Can the baby…’ Especially for members of the family who haven’t have a newborn near them in awhile - or for individuals without any interaction with the child - ‘Can the baby…’ is a great way to have the child show off their favorite tricks. Go around in a circle and have adults request different functions like ‘Touch your nose’ or ‘Eat a carrot.’ You are sure to find some hilarious requests.
Other first birthday activities include asking each family member to bring a special memento to build a baby time capsule. Ask to bring a favorite toy, a poem or letter about the child, a picture of him/her and the relative, … to build a container that they can open when they turn 18. Also, you can ask guests to sign a memory book about the child’s personality, quirks or achievements - or simply write a blessing for his or her future.
Have the child sing their favorite nursery rhymes or bring plenty of new toys (safe for all ages!) and arts & crafts to keep your younger family members entertained.
Decorate the walls with pictures of your baby at different ages and have your guests guess which ones go in the right order.
Ask your guests to dress in the first birthday theme you have chosen, if they are comfortable doing so. You can find cars and trucks hats to give all guests or Sesame Street plates and decorations for an adorable birthday environment. Of course, dressing up the 1-year-old and the young ones is always fun, so encourage costumes or a favorite outfit to spend the day feeling special and loved.
