Favorite Birthday Theme Ideas – Cowboy and Cowgirl Birthday Party
Little kids love to play imaginative games and when you have a birthday party that taps into their imagination, you are sure to have a smashing success. There are a number of different options that you can have with your child’s birthday party theme, but an old favorite for both children and adults is the cowboy or cowgirl birthday party.
If your child loves the country or just adores horses, you can throw a cowboy/cowgirl themed birthday party that will have everyone entertained and happy for hours.
Start with the decorations. Depending on where you live, you can find haystack blocks that make great outdoor decorations. Be prepared for some children to want to sit and jump off of them, so keep an eye on them throughout the party. From there, you can hang pictures of horseshoes, straw and checkered tablecloths on the table to give the feel of a barn and cowboy/cowgirl atmosphere. Find a piñata made of a cowboy boot for an extra special touch at the end of the party.
Invitations can be made out of construction paper. Find the shape of a horseshoe and cut out yellow shapes from construction paper, writing the party information on the edges. What about a large cowboy hat picture with the information written on the brim? You and your child can make these invitations together.
When each child arrives, you can give them a bandana and cowboy hat to get them in the mood of the theme. Now, it’s time for the fun cowboy and cowgirl games!
Playing ‘Pin the Tail on the Horse,’ ‘Badge on the Sheriff’ or ‘Cowboy Hat on the Kid’ are all great options. Make a challenging obstacle course outside that is age-appropriate for a number of children in case some of your guests bring their other siblings along to enjoy the fun. You can have the children race on pony stick around hay stacks, over obstacles and more.
Pair the children up in sets of two and tie two of their legs together for a Three-Legged race around a barrel. Hide toys like small toy horses in a pile of hay and have the children dive in to search for them. Give the kids water guns and have a water gun fight or if you want things more controlled, have them aim at a tin can for a shoot-off.
You can find a number of ideas and decorations for your cowboy/cowgirl party for a great success and tons of fun!
